I doubt that is what Google had in mind when they sold this software to Trimble on the condition that there would always be a free version available to the public for private, non-professional use. It appears the functionality of the free versions of this invaluable software are being progressively diminished, leaving frequent users with only a very expensive alternative to achieve the same results that have been provided free for years. I assumed the later model versions probably would not work with my Sketchup 2017, so I tried downloading and importing the Collada version but unfortunately that didn't work either. When downloading the item in my browser I was offered 4 options: Sketchup 2019, 2020, 0r 2021, or something called "Collada". after payment of US$299/CA$375 to Trimble.

I was able to download the item, but when I tried to import it I received a message saying it had been created in a later version of Sketchup than mine (2017) and that to complete the procedure I would have to upgrade to the current version - i.e. Reportedly it involves logging into 33 with an up to date browser using Trimble id and password, and downloading the desired warehouse item then importing the item into your Sketchup 2017 model. Models must be under 10 MB of filesize to be uploaded the the 3D Warehouse.Downloading 3D warehouse items into a Sketchup 2017 model no longer works, but apparently a workaround exists. There are also share settings Check the box if you would like viewers to be able to contact you about the model, track model history, etc. When unfolding 'Extra options', the modeler can also add a website and a logo which links to another website. The required text mainly consists of 'Title', 'Description', and 'Tags or Labels'. If the model passes, it will be added to the 3D Warehouse layer, and will soon be visible within Google Earth itself, by checking the box in the sidebar that is labeled '3D Buildings'.Ī Sketchup modeler will have to be a registered Google user to upload his models to the 3D Warehouse.

In other words, it will be reviewed by several Google employees, who check the models qualifications under certain acceptance criteria. If a 'Google Earth ready' model is submitted, within a few weeks, the model will pass through 'the pipeline'. Users can select the option when uploading their models, to verify if the model is 'Google Earth ready', which should be checked if the model is a real, current, well textured and correctly located representation of the reallife building. The models can also be viewed directly in Google Earth, or on Google Maps. Individual models can be viewed in 3D in the browser, but can also be downloaded in a KML (Google Earth) or SKP (Google Sketchup) file. When uploading, modelers can write a useful description of the model, and add tags to the details page so it can be easily found. It also shows model complexity, ranging from simple, to moderate and complex.

It is possible for modelers to create collections of models on the website, and the website uses algorithms to determine similar models.
